About
Rogers S. Walker is a visual artist, writer, and educator. His work explores the persistence of the past and the confluence of nature, history, and human relations. He is inspired to produce work that captures the tenuous, fleeting beauty of momentary connections between people and their natural and historical environments. His photography has been described as peaceful and hopeful; it draws inspiration from Japanese woodcuts and ink drawings, and the work of photographers such as Sally Mann, Jerry Uelsmann, Ana Mendieta, and Duane Michals. He aims with his work to encourage moments of stillness and meditation that are both aesthetically pleasing as well as intellectually stimulating. He grew up in rural South Carolina and currently lives in Oakland, CA. He has a BA in English from George Washington University, an MA in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University, and a Doctorate in Education from Johns Hopkins University. He studied in the MFA in Photography and Film program at Virginia Commonwealth University.
